Whats wrong with my alpine media player?

i bought an Alpine iDA-X303 and when my ipod touch is plugged into it..it freezes up sometimes..and when its frozen the ipod itself still plays but the HU wont and the only way to play again is to turn it off and plug it and plug it back in..any suggestions?...also another problem i bought an alpine mrp m1000 watt amp and it heats up quick and get hott like i couldnt even keep my hand on it because it burned..any siggestions on how to keep it cool...i read that i should upgrade my electrical system but whats that consist of?
