Why does my mother want to go through menopause so badly?

My mom is 48 and she said she can't wait to get rid of her periods. She said she didn't have them for 2 whole months and she thought she was going through "the change." She said she would be the happiest mother in the world if she didn't have another period ever. She said she hates them and she is too old for them. Why though???? Is a period really that bad?
