Fleas on Furniture?

What's the most effective way to get rid of fleas on furniture that can't be put in the wash? I've tried vacuuming it but our hoover's not great and it didn't work. Know any good product names or anything? My dog seems to have fleas all the time even after I've treated her so I guess she keeps picking them up from the furniture. Help?
