In zombie movies, why don't people just wear armor?

you clearly won't survive the pending zombie apocalypse. . . armor will just weigh you down...when zombies attack (not "if"...WHEN)... you need to be able to move quickly - you can't just stay in one place for long. Also, the most recent "zombie movie" Carriers had all the main characters wearing surgical masks...
